CAIRO: A total of 450 night clubs and alcoholic beverage stores in Cairo and Giza will be closed early Wednesday for the entire day, a security source told Youm7 Tuesday.
Night clubs and stores that sell alcoholic drinks will be closed in all other governorates Wednesday because it coincides with the day pilgrims in Mecca take to Arafat Mount and supplicate to God as part of the hajj rituals every year.
One to five-star “tourist places” will abide by the decision and not offer alcoholic beverages on Wednesday; violators will be referred to the prosecution, the source added.
Muslims across the world celebrate the day, as the next day is Eid al-Adha, or the Sacrifice Feast. Muslims who are not performing hajj traditionally fast on the day of Arafat Mount.
Alcoholic beverage stores are closed every year for 29-30 days in the holy month of Ramadan, after which lines of people gather outside these stores to buy drinks they have not been able to purchase for a month.
