CAIRO: Egypt’s Alexandria Public Transport Authority has launched a “Lemon Café” tram service in celebration of Eid al-Adha, Youm7 reported Wednesday.
“The new tram has an internet service, display screens and serves beverages; the fare is set at five EGP,” the authority’s chairman Khaled Eliwa told Youm7. He added that there is a library on board of the new tram.
The tram connects el-Nasr station (Victoria) area to el-Raml station, passing through 29 stations in between. The tram is an iconic and essential means of transportation in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

Eliwa added that the authority has enhanced the technical capacity and appearance of 25 trains in 2015.
Moreover, 83 buses and minibuses have been upgraded over six stages since April 2015 till September 2015. By December, 125 buses/minibuses will have been upgraded.
The chairman pointed that a number of projects will be implemented by the authority, including extending the tram service into the famous Alexandria district of al-Mansia.
The Lemon Café comes after Governor of Alexandra Hany el-Messiry inaugurated the San Stefano tram station in July.
“The [new] tram is being reserved for wedding celebrations; its revenues will be allocated for improving the tram facility, which is a part of [Alexandria’s] heritage,” Messiry said.
