CAIRO: The Earth is to witness a total lunar eclipse midnight between Sept. 27-28, which happens to be near the 2015 supermoon, Youm7 reported Saturday.

Egypt will witness the eclipse in its last partial stage, which will occur on Sept. 28 at 6: 27: 24 in the morning.

“The phenomena will not occur again until 2033; Europe, western Asia, Africa and the Americas will be witnessing the total eclipse except for the western half of Alaska,” Astronomy department Head in the National Institute for Astronomical Sciences, Ashraf Tadras told Youm7 Saturday.

He added that the eclipse will last for 5 hours, 13 minutes and 42 seconds, starting from its start as a penumberal eclipse till its end as a penumberal eclipse again.

“The total eclipse stage takes around one hour, 12 minutes and 48 seconds,” according to Tadros.

The supermoon describes a point during the orbit of the moon when it is the closest to earth, and appears the largest when viewed from earth.
