CAIRO: The prosecution is investigating the replacement of 11 kilos of hash with the same weight of pressed dates, Youm7 reported Wednesday.
The drugs were seized in 2012 in Mahalla in the Delta, and the case was registered against an anonymous defendant. The contraband was then transferred to the general drugs storehouse at Alexandria port.
But when a team of prosecutors headed to the port to dispose and destroy the hash, it found 11 kilos of pressed dates instead, although the seal appeared unbroken. The prosecution is following the documented chain of custody of the evidence, which includes signatures of officers who submitted and received it.
It has not been found out yet how old the pressed dates are, but a bar of pressed dates may resemble hash in one of its processing stages.
