Dutch passenger hides narcotic pills in chocolate box, arrested at airport

CAIRO: Cairo Airport authorities arrested a Dutch passenger over attempting to smuggle “huge amount of narcotic pills and eight grams of marijuana” inside chocolate boxes, Youm7 reported Monday.

Airport Customs officials inspected the passenger, who is of Egyptian descent, after arriving from Amsterdam. The inspection revealed 2,565 tablets of ecstasy hidden in his luggage.

The customs department at the Cairo Airport has recently stopped several attempts to smuggle drugs, money, artifacts.

Two Egyptians were arrested Sunday for trying to smuggle 330 Tramadol tablets on arriving from France.

Three others, including a Libyan national, are being investigated for smuggling a huge shipment of silver artifacts worth 200,000 EGP ($25,550) and not paying the customs value of 400,000 EGP.

Customs department at the Borg el-Arab International Airport in Alexandria foiled Sunday an attempt to smuggle 40,000 United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED) and 30,000 Saudi Riyals.
