CAIRO: A mere 10 out of 174 industrial facilities inspected by the Ministry of Environment were found not in violation of illegal levels of pollution, a ministry official told Youm7 Monday.
“The coming period will witness many campaigns to the provinces to counter all forms of environmental pollution, and I advise business owners to quickly legalize their status in order to preserve the environment,” Jamal Saidi, Head of Branches Sector at the Ministry of Environment told Youm7.
A September inspection into air quality had similarly high levels of violations; of 113 Cairo factories, 112 were found them in violation of air quality standards.
The only factory to not have violations was found to be out of operation, Saidi told Youm7 at the time.
A vehicle inspection campaign is also under way, so far inspecting 23,000 vehicles, 18 percent of whice have been found to not conform to emission standards.
The ministry has organized a series of seminars to raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution.
