CAIRO: Telecommunication service has been reconnected for residents in South Sinai following a 6-hour outage yesterday, state-owned Telecom Egypt announced Tuesday.

The service had suddenly been cut off in cables to Taba, Nuweiba and Suez-Rass Sidr, Youm7 reported.

An alternative cable is being now repaired without affecting the service, the company added.

The reasons behind the service outage have not yet been announced.

In November 2013, 100 million EGP ($14 million) were allocated for supporting and enhancing the telecommunication services in North and South Sinai, said former Minister of Communication and Information Technology Atef Helmy .
