CAIRO: Five doctors at government-owned al-Qasr al-Aini hospital will be investigated and referred to the disciplinary department for accepting money in return for treatment at the free hospital, Youm7 reported.

The doctors were also suspended from Cairo University after patients at Qasr al-Aini complained that they needed to pay the physicians to be treated, head of Cairo University told Youm7 Thursday.

Some citizens who seek treatment at Egypt’s free hospitals complain about lack of space and bad services; they also complain that doctors sometimes refer them to their private clinics instead of treating them for free at a given government hospital.

In June, Egyptian doctors launched an awareness campaign of poor conditions of patients and doctors alike public hospitals.

Doctors hired by the government, supported by the Medical Syndicate, held several strikes in 2014 in demand of higher salaries
