CAIRO: Security forces have arrested an Egyptian shopkeeper for allegedly killing a Russian tourist in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada, Youm7 reported Friday.

The Russian tourist, 60, was stabbed to death and her naked dead body was found inside an apartment north of Hurghada.

Initial investigations revealed that the defendant and the tourist conflicted on a financial matter and the victim tried to kill the man.

According to a monthly report of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, Russia topped the list of Eastern European countries sending tourists to Egypt in July 2015, recording 67.9 percent of the total number of tourists visiting Egypt.

In January, Egyptian authorities temporarily exempted Russian tourists from paying a $25 entry visa fee following the high inflation in Russia due to a drop in oil prices and ongoing EU sanctions on it because of the Ukraine crisis.
