CAIRO: The first phase of Egypt’s two-phase 2015 Parliament elections started Sunday in Egypt, after kicking off Saturday for the expatriates worldwide.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi Saturday called on citizens to flock to polling stations and vote in large numbers in the 2015 elections, that will complete the political roadmap set out in 2013.
“I call on all Egyptians to gather for the home and for the martyrs to vote [….] to continue building the state’s institutions and anchor the democracy and the Social Justice,” Sisi said in a televised speech.
The second phase is scheduled on Nov. 22 and 23 for the domestic Egyptians and on Nov. 21 and 22 for the expats.
Egypt’s House of Representatives will comprise of 596 members, with 448 to be elected as independents, 120 through the winner-take-all party lists system, with 28 seats to be appointed by the president, HEC said.
