67 protests occurred in Egypt in Q3 of 2015

CAIRO: A total of 67 protests, strikes and sit-ins have been staged across Egypt during the third quarter of 2015, the Arab Foundation for Civil Society and Human Rights Support (AFCSHR) said in a report issued Saturday.

The report indicated several details of each protest including its volume; the group staged it, the demands, and the governorate where it occurred along with the reaction of security forces.

According to the report, eight protests occurred outside the Education Ministry headquarters in Cairo and education directorates in Asyut and Alexandria governorates while six protests were staged outside the Journalists Syndicate in Cairo.

In mid-September, dozens of teachers have protested outside Journalists Syndicate demanding the dismissal of Minister of Education and increase in wages.

Five protests were also staged outside the Cabinet headquarters in downtown Cairo, the report said.

Masters degree holders frequently protested outside the Cabinet demanding they be provided employment.

In August, six other protests were staged outside the Cabinet headquarters demanding the amendment of the new Civil Service Law.

In July, 14 protests were staged by doctors, pharmacists, and teachers, three by high school students, one by high-ranked policemen, one by labors and two by Muslim Brotherhood group, the report said.

Residents of Daqahlia, Port Said, Alexandria and Asyut governorates along with several districts in Cairo have staged six protests against frequent water cuts, according to the report.

As many as 28 protests were staged in August by labors at governmental and private sector institutions including the General Authority for Industrial Development, the Integrated Oil Company and Endowments Ministry department in Giza, according to the report.
