CAIRO: Egypt’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy, along with a senior military delegation, left to Jordan Tuesday in an official visit to enhance security cooperation, according to a military statement.

The visit, which will last for several days, will witness meetings between Hegazy and his Jordanian counterpart and a number of officials at Jordan’s Ministry of Defense.

“The visit comes in light of the depth of the ties that bind the two brotherly countries and peoples, and the matching vision and joint stances towards the challenges that target security and stability in the Middle East,” the Egyptian Defense Ministry statement read.

Minister of Defense Sedqi Sobhi and Hegazy have embarked on several talks with foreign officials in the past months.

Most recently, Sobhi headed to Spain Oct. 13 an a three-day official visit to bolster military cooperation upon an invitation from his Spanish counterpart after signing a memorandum of understanding on joint military exercises in Egypt in May.

Hegazy met with a delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives in September to discuss “countering terrorism.”
