CAIRO: ‘For the Love of Egypt” electoral list is emerging as the strong winner in a number of governorates, the head of the high elections committee (HEC), Ayman Abbas, announced Wednesday evening.
The estimated turnout among the electorate reached 26.56 percent of eligible voters, Abbas told Youm7.
“For the love of Egypt” electoral list won the first phase of the elections in Upper Egypt and West of Delta’s constituencies, by acquiring 60 seats in the next Parliament, 45 of them in Giza and Upper Egypt and 15 seats in West of Delta.
New Valley governorate recorded the highest turnout, with 37 percent of the registered voters participating in the first phase of the elections, while Giza governorate witnessed the lowest turnout with 21 percent of the registered voters participating, said Abbas.
Abbas added that 4 individual candidates won seats during the first stage of the elections, while 222 seats to be contested in the run-offs next week. Television presenter Abdul Rehim Ali won in Giza, Mohamed Dessouky and Mohamed al Bahsa in Upper Egypt, and Gamal Fares in the new valley.
HEC also announced that the “For the love of Egypt” won half of the 30000 votes cast abroad.
