CAIRO: The Main Research and Rescue Center of the Armed Forces implemented a simulated rescue operation of a sinking ship in the coastal town of Nuweiba, in the eastern part of Sinai Peninsula, Youm7 reported Thursday.

The operation, called “Egypt 2,” aims to ensure the readiness and rapid response of air and navy forces in receiving distress signals.

The training started by receiving a distress signal from a ferry at a 10 miles far in Nuweiba Port in the Gulf of Aqaba. Orders were released to navy forces to move to the area and search for the ferry and save the passengers. Jordanian navy forces, which are participating in the training, have deployed a launch to help in rescuing the survivors.

Regarding the search and air rescue part of the operation, an Egyptian plane took off and headed to the site to pick up the survivors, the injured and the victims and transfer them to the port.
