CAIRO: Nissan has launched its new, locally-manufactured Sentra in Egypt bringing a raft of new premium features to the segment for the first time.
An upgrade from the previous model, the car combines elegant styling with a cavernous interior. Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control, Bluetooth mobile connectivity, smart wooden trims and Push Button Ignition are fitted as standard.
The new Sentra starts at 139,900 K EGP, and is built to the same exacting Nissan quality standards as all the Japanese company’s cars around the world.
“The new Sentra puts luxury within reach of more Egyptian families,” said Isao Sekiguchi, Managing Director of Nissan Motor Egypt (NMEG). “Nissan is the first to offer features like air conditioning for rear seat passengers, Bluetooth and push-to-start engines at such an affordable price. Proudly building the car in the country means more Egyptians can upgrade their journey.”
Assembly began in Nissan’s plant in the 6th October City industrial zone outside Cairo earlier this month. It is the only factory in Egypt directly owned and operated 100% by a global car maker and already produces the popular Sunny sedan and Pickup models.Demand for Nissan’s cars is so strong it is the only car plant in the country to operate 3-shift around the clock production.
“Our plant in 6th October City is an increasingly important part of our international family of manufacturing facilities,” said Yoshihiro Ohto, Plant Managing Director. “We apply the same rigorous production processes and attention to quality in all our plants around the world. Sentra’s introduction to our production line is a testament to the skill and dedication of our employees here in Egypt.”
Local production of the new Sentra consolidates Nissan’s position as the number one Japanese investor in Egypt, and a leading player in the automotive market. It is also one of the biggest employers in the sector, providing jobs to 1,300 people directly, with another 3,000 staff at dealers and suppliers.
“At a time Egypt is working to develop and strengthen the economy and attract inward investment, we are very proud that Nissan is playing its part by growing with the country,” said Sekiguchi.
“Our decision to assemble the new Sentra in Egypt reflects our expertise in the Egyptian automotive industry, our confidence in the Egyptian market and our trust in the skills of our workforce.”
