CAIRO: Attorney-General Nabil Sadeq referred Saturday outgoing Agriculture Minister Salah Helal alongside top officials at the ministry to the criminal court over corruption charges, a well-informed source told Youm7.
On 9 Sep., Helal was sentenced to 15 days detention pending further investigations over accusations of “embezzlement and facilitating the seizure of public funds.”
In early Sep., Helal was arrested hours after he resigned from his position in the cabinet. A cabinet statement said that the resignation was presented “on orders of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi”.
On Sep., 22, a media gag was enforced upon the case.
The minister and three others face accusations of requesting and taking bribes for facilitating the sale of 2,500 acres in Wadi al-Natroun city in Delta’s Beheira Governorate, according to a statement from the National Security Prosecution.
