CAIRO: A total of 145 Egyptians were arrested in the Western Desert’s Sallum Monday before illegally travelling to Libya, Youm7 reported.

The citizens include 61 from Beheira, 27 from Asyut, 17 from Minya 14 from Sohag, 14 from Fayoum, five from Sharqia, four from Giza, two from Damietta and one from Beni Suef. They were all referred to the prosecution.

On Tuesday, 245 people, all Egyptian except five Sudanese, were arrested in the same city for being in a military zone without a permit as they were heading to Libya through desert routes.

Despite deteriorating security in Libya, Egyptians continue to travel to Libya to find work; these sorts of arrests are frequent at the borders with Libya.

The Ministry of Justice announced Oct. 23 that it would found courts specialized in human trafficking and illegal immigration.

In an Oct. 13 statement, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir reported that 2,215 people were arrested in illegal immigration attempts in September, both in cities on the Mediterranean to travel to Europe and at the Egyptian-Libya borders.
