A temporary wave of bad weather, including heavy rains and storms, has hit Egypt, but Alexandria has been the most-affected city, with rain water covering cars, trees and the corniche.

At least seven died Sunday in accidents related to the weather, including an electric shock after a power cable fell in standing water inundating the streets.

An estimated 3.4 million cubic meters of water poured down on the cit, Serafy said, adding that the capacity of the sewage network does not exceed 1.4 million cubic meters.

He noted that around 500 workers and engineers participated in pulling out the water from the streets using some 77 hydraulic pumps from water companies in Alexandria, Cairo, Gharbiya, Minya and Giza governortes. Serafy noted that vehicles were deployed by the armed forces to participate in pulling the water.
