CAIRO: The Egyptian authorities have deported 47 Sudanese nationals to their country after attempting to illegally immigrate to Italy through the Mediterranean Sea, DPA reported Wednesday.
On board of a fishing boat, the immigrants were arrested last week in Baltim city of Delta’s Kafr al-Sheikh governorate, 200 kilometers away from Cairo.
After coordination between the Egyptian and Sudanese authorities, the immigrants were deported to Khartoum, an official source at Cairo International Airport told Youm7.
On May 25, Coast guards recovered five dead bodies and arrested 20 people in Kafr el-Sheikh (Delta) while attempting to “illegally immigrate” to Italy.
Coastguards occasionally foil the attempt of asylum seekers to reach Europe illegally, but border guards prevent dozens, mostly Egyptian, Sudanese and Somali, from reaching Libya illegally almost on weekly basis.
