CAIRO: Six foreigners and an Egyptian were ordered detained for 45 days pending Giza Criminal Court investigations for allegedly belonging to the Islamic State group (IS,) Youm7 reported Monday.

Homeland Security had received intelligence that the six people arrived in Egypt through the Sallum crossing on the borders with Libya posing as tourists, according to the court’s report.

During their stay in Egypt they allegedly detected “vital locations” to be targeted later, using the car of an Egyptian. The Egyptian man, 45, lives in Haram in Giza.

Laptops, IS and Muslim Brotherhood slogans, a machine gun and ammunition, knives, electrical circuits, and large amounts of money in local and foreign currencies were found in the defendants’ possession, according to the report.

The group has allegedly admitted to inciting citizens on social media to boycott the elections and circulating videos and pictures to “stir panic in the country,” the report said.

On Oct. 23, a bomb near Giza Pyramids wounded four people; an attack that was later claimed by IS’s affiliate in Egypt.
