CAIRO: Sixteen foreigners were deported from Cairo Airport to their home countries Tuesday after being released in Qalyubia and Suez, Youm7 reported.

The deportees were released after their criminal record was proven clear; eight Sudanese, an Ethiopian and a Nigerian had originally been arrested in the Delta’s Qalyubia and seven Syrians had been arrested in Suez.

On Oct. 25, 238 people were arrested in a fishing boat while heading to Italy from the Delta’s Kafr el-Sheikh; one hundreds were Egyptian, 138 were from Iraq, Somalia, Congo, Ethiopia, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan and Comoros.

On Oct. 23, 11 Somalis and 10 Ethiopians were arrested in a train arriving in Luxor, southern Egypt, for having entered the country illegally. On Sept. 26, Egypt deported 26 Sudanese and seven Nigerians for attempting to migrate illegally to Libya and Italy.

A total of 72 Somalis, three Congolese, two Sudanese and one Gambian were arrested before boarding a boat to Italy from Kafr el-Sheikh on Oct. 21

Some foreigners who wish to migrate illegally to Libya or Europe transit through Egypt. In an Oct. 13 statement, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir reported that 2,215 people were arrested in illegal immigration attempts in September, both in cities on the Mediterranean and at the Egypt-Libya borders.

Minister of Justice Ahmed al-Zend announced Oct. 23 that Egypt would found courts specialized in trafficking and illegal immigration.
