PM visits Russian embassy to extend condolences over plane crash

CAIRO: Prime Minister Sherif Ismail visited the Russian embassy in Cairo Sunday morning to express his condolences over the death of all passengers on a Russian plane that crashed in the Sinai Saturday , Youm7 reported.

Earlier today, Ismail visited the Zeinhom morgue in Cairo to follow up the arrival of the bodies of those aboard Russian Airbus A321. The Egyptian forensic authority announced Saturday it has started a DNA identification analysis for more than 100 corpses.

A Russian airliner carrying 224 passengers crashed Saturday morning over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula 23 minutes after losing radar contact. There were no survivors.

Ismail is scheduled to meet with the Russian ministerial delegation expected to arrive in Cairo Sunday evening to follow up the situation on the ground and the operations of evacuating the victims.

An investigation team from the Ministry of Civil Aviation headed to the site of the crash to start a probe into the cause of the crash.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared Nov. 1 a national day of mourning following the crash, the Kremlin press service announced Saturday.
