CAIRO: An Alexandria citizen whose apartment was flooded amid last week’s wave of unstable weather in the Mediterranean city will receive compensation of 5,000 EGP ($622) from the government, Youm7 reported.
A picture of Shaaban went viral on social media showing him standing with his legs immersed in water that inundated his home, and resting his head on his refrigerator. The picture has attracted many reactions by users who sympathized with Shaaban’s situation, while some published his address calling on people to help him.

Solidarity Minister Ghada Waly ordered a payment of 5,000 EGP in compensation to the owner of the horse that was killed by an electric shock from a tram cable that fall into rain water.

Waly’s statements came while delivering compensations to families harmed by the Alexandria flooding crisis. She noted that the ministry paid a total of 300,000 EGP for 76 cases whose assets were largely affected by the rains.
Other cases for families affected by the crisis are under study, she added.
The ministry also announced it would pay 10,000 EGP to each family of at least five victims, including two children, who were killed in accidents related to the weather.
Alexandria has been the most affected governorate in a wave of weather change across the country, with water inundating its streets and covering cars, trees and cornich.

The government has admitted its failure to handle the heavy rainfall. Alexandria governor submitted his resignation and another one take over the position.
The city is expected to be hit by heavy showers amid a fierce wave of weather to sweep nationwide Tuesday through Friday, according to warnings by Egypt’s Meteorological Authority (EMA.)
