CAIRO: Thirteen Egyptian rights groups have signed a joint petition blaming and accusing the Egyptian authorities for the health deterioration of Hassan Mubarak; a 63-year-old detainee.
“The undersigned organizations put the responsibility of Hassan Mubarak’s deteriorating health conditions on the Egyptian Ministry of Interior and the Attorney General,” said the petition, according to Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR.)
Mubarak was “abusively” transferred from the intensive care unit in Bolaq Hospital to be detained in Bolaq police station.
According to el-Nadeem Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence, Mubarak was arrested on May 30 after policemen raided his house, accusing him of printing books without legal permit from its owners in violation of Egypt’s law on the protection of intellectual property rights.
“After his lawyers proved that the accusations were groundless, Mubarak’s detention continued pending investigations on charges of belonging to the April 6 Youth Movement,” said the petition.
During Mubarak’s 15-day pending investigations detention, he was transferred twice to the hospital due to health issues.
On June 2, 14 rights groups signed a petition demanding an immediate release of Mubarak, according to Arabic Network for human rights Information (ANHRI)’s website.
Mubarak was transferred to the Intensive care unit on June 8 suffering an extreme state of illness.
“A medical report was released from Bolaq hospital on June 9 diagnosing Mubarak’s state as having stethomyitis, hyper glucemia and dehydration and needed to be under medical observation,” el-Nadeem said on its facebook page Tuesday.
Another medical report included an alikeness of prostatitis and that he needs to be examined by urinary tract specialist. As there wouldn’t be available specialists in the hospital until the next day, the hospital’s management insisted that Mubarak is to be transferred immediately from the IC to the detention, said el-Nadeem.
