CAIRO: Head of Central Cairo district Wagdy Musallam has been removed from his post Friday for “garbage accumulation” monitored during Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab’s abrupt visit, Youm7 reported.
The decision came after Mahlab made an inspection tour to al-Darb al-Ahmar area where he saw piles of garbage accumulated outside an ancient mosque. Mahlab, who expressed his resentment, has ordered Cairo Governor Galal el-Saeed to remove Musallam.
During his tour, Mahlab directed to start cleaning works in the area as well as to raise the efficiency and improve services at three hospitals in the district.
Mahlab along with El-Saeed and Minister of Endowment Mokhtar Gomaa preformed the Friday prayers at Cairo’s Blue Mosque, which was inaugurated in May after six-year restoration.
Mahlab visited the National Heart Institute June 6; he expressed his “shock and surprise” at the hospital’s bad services. Doctors then launched their online campaign titled “so if he comes, he won’t be surprised,” referring to Mahlab. Dozens of grim pictures of dirty state-run hospital beds, tools, and bathrooms have been posted.
