CAIRO: Georgia’s embassy in Cairo opened a bank account to receive donations for the Tbilisi flood’s victims, Youm7 reported Sunday.
“By the decision of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the persons, upon their desire, may provide financial assistance to the victims of the flood that happened in Tbilisi,” the Georgian embassy said on Facebook Sunday.
The embassy has opened the account 5360300114 at the Commercial International Bank (CIB) in Egypt.
A flood on June 13 and 14 swept Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, caused by a “landslide that occurred during heavy rains that turned the city’s river Vere into a torrent,” Reuters reported Wednesday.
Dozens of animals escaped from a destroyed zoo after the flood; tigers, lions, crocodiles and even bears and hippos were seen wandering through the flooded streets of Tbilisi.
On Wednesday, a tiger killed a cleaner and police later shot the animal dead.
About 20 people were killed in the disaster, and siz are still missing, the Guardian reported Wednesday.
