CAIRO: Egyptian diver Walaa Hafez set a new Guinness World Record for The Longest Open Saltwater Scuba Dive for 51 hours and 20 minutes off Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Hurghada, Youm7 reported Saturday.
The dive started on Thursday morning and ended at Saturday 6:00 pm. Hafez consumed 55 tanks of Oxygen, with the help of 25 divers from different countries including Germany, Russia, Italy, Netherland and Austria.
On Thursday, Egyptian diver Ahmed Gabr has led the “Biggest Dive” with 400 divers to clean up the Red Sea’s seabed from wastes.
A total of 300 divers were successful to break the world record for diving in the same category set by the UAE.
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and the Red Sea Governorate.
In September 2014, Gabr has set the world scuba diving depth record, submerging to 332.35 meters off the Red Sea resort of Dahab, and emerging Friday to best the previous record of 318.25 meters set by South African Nuno Gomez in 2005.
