CAIRO: The State Commissioners department of the State Council recommended to the Administrative Court that it bans dual citizens from owning lands in the Sinai Peninsula, Youm7 reported Tuesday.

Lawyer George Anton filed a lawsuit against the President of Egypt, the Cabinet and the Minister of Defense after Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab passed a June 16 amendment to the 2012 law of the Integrated Development of Sinai Peninsula, preventing Egyptians who hold foreign passports from purchasing lands in Sinai.

The recommendation is in favor of the national security of Egypt, as Sinai’s security problems dictate such precaution, strategic and military expert Mahmoud Khalaf told Youm7.

Khalaf added that a dual citizen previously sold a piece of land in Sinai to an Israeli, “posing danger” to the country’s security.
