CAIRO: T.V. anchor Islam al-Beheiry and owner of Al Kahera Wal Nas channel Treq Nour were acquitted of blasphemy Wednesday by the 6 October Misdemeanor Court, Youm7 reported.
According to the lawsuit filed by lawyer Mamdouh Abdel Gawad, Beheiry launched, through his talk show, a fierce attack against prominent Muslim clergymen and questioned the credibility of the traditional Islamic sources. The first session was held on May 30.
On May 31, Beheiry was sentenced in absentia to five years in jail over charges of defaming religion.
In May, another lawsuit, which was filed by al-Azhar against Beheiry was rejected by the State Lawsuit Authority for lack of Jurisdiction
