CAIRO: Egypt condemns the Friday “abhorrent terrorist attacks” that killed 67 people in Kuwait, Tunisia, and France offering sympathies and condolences for the victims of these “brutal terrorist incidents,” according to a presidential statement Friday.
“Egypt affirms it stands with those countries that suffer from the scourge of terrorism and expresses its full support in their war against terrorism and extremism, which knows no boundaries or religions. Its reach has extended to claim the lives of innocent civilians, destroy various treasures of human civilization without respect for places of worship or vital facilities,” the statement read.
A total of 27 persons were killed and 227 others were injured in a suicide attack targeted a Shiite mosque in Kuwait during Friday prayer, said the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health in a statement.
In Tunisia, a gunman disguised as a tourist opened fire at tourists in a Tunisian hotel at the Imperial Marhaba in Sousse Friday, killing 39 people, including European tourists from Britain, Germany, France, and Belgium, Reuters reported.
An explosion took place at a gas factory in Lyon city in Southern France when a car crashed into a gas canisters; one person was found beheaded at the factory entrance while two others were injured. One of the two attackers was arrested and French security officials said he has ties with Islamic extremists, AP reported.
The Islamic State (IS) group has announced its responsibility for Kuwaiti and Tunisia attacks on a Twitter account allegedly belongs to the group.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry offered his country’s condolences for the victims, saying that Egypt stands with those governments against the terrorism that has no link with any religion.
