Mobile phones have been used in detonating bombs remotely; in January, Four explosive devices were neutralized in Cairo and Upper Egypt; the devices were connected with mobile phones with unregistered SIM card.

On Jan. 27, Egypt’s Court of Urgent Matters banned the usage of unregistered SIM cards, saying that all three mobile companies (Vodafone, Etisalat, and Mobinil) shall comply with the court decision and register all clients’ data.

Unregistered SIM cards “harm the security and public peace and represents a violation and a threat to the security of Egypt and national citizens,” the court said.
