CAIRO: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Saturday that “terrorist acts” Egypt witnesses are a part of a global phenomenon that tries to end stability and development.

In a Saturday statement, the ministry emphasized that Egypt leads a “fierce war against terrorism;” not only to defend its land, but also to defend the entire “civilized world.”

It added that all the “terrorist organizations” stem from the same radical ideology and the same source; the Muslim Brotherhood organization founded in 1928.

As Egypt was able to defeat “terrorism” in the 1970s and 1990s, where the country was hit by Islamist militancy, it will defeat it again, the ministry said.

“Egypt will continue to move forward with the will of its people and vision of its leaders towards economic and social development to enhance its livelihood, create new job vacancies and achieve social justice through its modern democratic system,” said the ministry.

On July 1, North Sinai militants affiliated with the Islamic State group attacked several military checkpoints in the northern tip of the peninsula killing 17 servicemen, according to military spokesperson Mohamed Samir. Over 200 militants were killed in the clashes and subsequent strikes by the military.
