CAIRO:  A few hours after being arrested, four members of the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF) in Qalyubia governorate were released Sunday, the commission announced.

The four members; two engineers, a lawyer, and a researcher, were arrested when they were conducting a social survey in Khosos city of Qalyubia on developing the city’s slums, ECRF said.

They faced accusations of “collecting information without a permit from the concerned bodies and working with unregistered NGO,” the organization noted.

The organization said it submitted a registration request to the Ministry of Social Solidarity in January 2015 and has not received feedback.

ECRF researcher Mina Thabet told al-Shorouk newspaper that if an organization did not receive a notification of rejection of its registration request from the Ministry of Solidarity within 60 days, its foundation becomes legal in accordance with the NGO Law of 2002.
