CAIRO: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that Egypt’s public debt hiked to 2.016 trillion EGP ($260.62 billion) at the end of March, while the external debt declined to $39.9 billion, Youm7 reported Monday.
CBE pointed in its latest statistical bulletin that the amount of the government spending of the public debt recorded 88.3 percent, which corresponds 1.78 trillion EGP ($230.1 billion,) with a 242.1 billion EGP ($31.29 billion) increase.
The bulletin added that the due from the public economic institutions reached 0.3 percent of the public debt, which corresponds 10 billion EGP ($1.29 billion,) while the NIB’s debt soared by 11.4 percent of the total debt.
On the other hand, the external debt witnessed a decline by 13.5 percent to reach $39.9 billion by the end of March, compared to $46.1 billion by the end of June 2014.
