CAIRO: Delegations from over 121 countries are scheduled to arrive in Cairo to participate in the Thursday inauguration ceremony of Egypt’s New Suez Canal, Cairo International Airport official said Tuesday.
So far, the arrival of over 800 diplomats, 26 heads of states has been confirmed, the official told Youm7 Tuesday.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta were the first heads of states to have arrived in Cairo Tuesday, the official said.
Last week, France’s Elysee has confirmed in a statement that French President François Hollande will be the inauguration ceremony’s “guest of honor.”
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif will partake in the ceremony.
Delegations from the U.K., U.S., Thailand, Germany, Lebanon, and the UAE have arrived in Cairo Tuesday. Abdel Rhaman Shehab; special envoy of the Indonesian President has arrived Tuesday.
