CAIRO: Installing surveillance cameras at shops in Egypt’s capital is a prerequisite for the issue or renewal of a commercial license per a decision by the Cairo governorate.

All heads of districts and concerned bodies were informed with the decision to start obliging shops’ owners to install monitoring cameras at their shops’ fronts.

The aim of such decision, according to Deputy Cairo Governor Ahmed Daif, is to achieve “security and stability,” and a contribution in the anti- terrorism campaign.

In statements to Youm7, Daif said that there would be follow-up campaigns to assure the implementation of the decision.

The decision comes amid stepped-up militant attacks on public and security utilities in Cairo streets; a few of them were caught on surveillance cameras of nearby banks, police stations and museums, which reportedly helped authorities to arrest perpetrators.
