Egypt’s stability needs to be maintained: Duma chairman

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Tuesday with Russia’s State Duma Chairman Sergey Naryshkin in Moscow and discussedinter-parliamentary cooperation, Youm7 reported.

During the meeting, Naryshkin praised Egypt for its security efforts and”stabilizing role in the Middle East that needs to be maintained and strengthened,”Russia’s State Duma deputy chief of staff Yuri Shuvalov told Sputniknews Tuesday.

“Russia considers Egypt one of our leading and most reliable partners in the Middle East and we are interested that Egypt’s stabilizing role will be kept up and strengthened in this large and complicated region and in the whole Muslim world,”Naryshkin said in a televised speech aired on ruptly.tv.

Sisi asserted that Egypt’s parliamentary elections will be held before the end of the year.

“During the past two years, Egypt has gone through great difficulties including terrorism and extremist attacksbut the will of the Egyptian people has helped to overcome these difficulties,” Sisi said.

Sisi is scheduled Wednesday to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Russian senior officials to discuss several bilateral issues.
