CAIRO:Unidentified armed men fatally shot two police sergeants in Arish City, in North Sinai, the Ministry of Interior announced on its Facebook page Wednesday.
The ministry added that the assailants opened fire while they were riding a motorbike.
Security agencies intensified efforts to arrest the perpetrators of the attack and the used weapons, added the release.
The Associated Press quoted anonymous officials who said that the killed police forces had been guarding a post office. Alleged pictures of the attack were posted on Twitter with slogans claimed to be affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) branch in the restive Sinai.
The picture’s caption said that the weapons of the slain policemen were seized.
The attack comes as part of a series of aggressions mounted against army and police personnel by Islamist militants in the northern tip of the peninsula. Such attacks, which have left hundreds of personnel killed and injured, increased since the July 2013 ouster of Mohamed Morsi.
