CAIRO: A total of 800 tons of wreckage of 10 sunken ships have been removed from the Alexandria Port, Head of Alexandria Ports Authority, Abdul Kadir Darwish told Youm7 Wednesday.
The remains of 10 other sunken ships are expected to be lifted before the end of 2015.
Youm7 reported that the removal of the sunken ships is per instructions from President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.
Some seven contractor companies have cut the wreckage of the 10 removed ships on the expenses of their owners.
Some of the recovered ships were abandoned more than 10 years ago, according to Youm7.
The process of recovering the ships is carried out in coordination between naval forces, security agencies in the country and the customs department.
