CAIRO: Thirty alleged militants in North Sinai were killed in the third day of the military operation of “The Right of the Martyr;” the total number killed since the campaign’s launch reached 86 Sunday, according to a statement from the military spokesperson Mohamed Samir Wednesday.
The 30 suspects were killed in an exchange of fire with military forces, meanwhile 41 others were arrested in Rafah, Arish, and Sheikh Zuwayed cities in restive North Sinai, Samir added in a statement.
Some 35 vehicles and bikes that were allegedly used by militants for terrorist attacks have been destroyed; meanwhile 80 suspected hideouts were targets, the statement continued, noting that residents of North Sinai helped the military forces to carry out the operation.
A total of 29 militants were killed in the first day of the operation announced Monday., and 27 suspected others were killed and 154 arrested Tuesday.
