Egypt misses out on 2nd and final 2015 eclipse

CAIRO: Egypt and its neighbors missed out on witnessing the second and final solar eclipse of 2015, announced the head of the Astronomy Department at the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Ashraf Tadros Sunday.

“The moon covered 78,8 percent of the sun; It is a partial eclipse and the peak of the eclipse was at 8:54:12 am,” Tadros added.

He added that it lasted for 5 hours, 24 minutes and 42 seconds; it started at 6:42 a.m. and ended at 11:06 a.m. by Cairo time Zone (GMT +2.)

He pointed that that eclipse was partially visible in South Africa, the southern half of Madagascar, the Atlantic Ocean, a part of the Indian Ocean, the eastern part of Antarctica and South India.

The first solar eclipse in 2015 took placeMarch 20; it was total eclipse but neither Egypt nor the Arab countries were able to witness it.
