CAIRO: Egyptian expatriates in Saudi Arabia were provided with air-conditioned tents to cast their ballots in the parliament elections, amid scorching heat, Vice President of Egyptians’ union in the Kingdom, Adel Hanafy said Saturday.
The polling process in Egypt’s parliamentary elections kicked off abroad Saturday, where expatriates headed to some 136 embassies and consulates on the first voting day.
There are some 11 sub-committees in Riyadh and the same number in Jeddah, Hanafy said to ONTV Channel. He added that the turnout in the beginning of the day was “weak,” but two hours later the flow rose.
Hanafy expects a “higher turnout” at the polling stations in the evening, especially that Saturday is off in the kingdom.
The first phase of the elections abroad is set to be carried out on two days: Saturday and Sunday.
Eligible Egyptian expatriates can vote without prior registration. They will be requested to present their national ID number of passports, in addition to filling a form declaring their residence abroad.
