CAIRO: The second day of the first phase of parliamentary elections kicks off with a voting volume of 15 percent in the first day, prompting the Cabinet to announce Monday as a half-day work to encourage a higher turnout.

Polling stations close at 9 p.m., but some stations closed after that to allow citizens still waiting to cast their votes, Omar Marwan, spokesperson of the High Elections Commission (HEC,) said in a press conference Sunday.

Alexandria registered the highest percentage of votes, while the lowest turnout of all governorates was in the Red Sea. Halayeb voting district in the Red Sea, however, topped all districts in terms of the voting volume, spokesperson of the Cabinet’s operations room for the elections Osama Singer told ON TV Sunday.
