CAIRO: Egyptian security forces have arrested senior Muslim Brotherhood figure and businessman Hassan Malik from his house in New Cairo’s upscale district of Tagammu el-Khames, state-run T.V. announced Thursday evening.
“The arrest was made at the request of the Attorney General,” said the T.V. presenter without specifying charges against Malek.
Malek was arrested “on charges of funding a group that promotes violence,” Reuters quoted a security official as saying.
In September 2013, a court ruling was issued to ban the Brotherhood, deeming it a “terrorist organization” and confiscating all its assets.
