CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al Sisi met with Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser CEO Sunday and reviewed the latest developments on the implementation of three natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants, Youm7 reported.
During the meeting, Kaeser presented the progress his company achieved in manufacturing the turbines required for the power plants stressing the implementation rates are going according to the timeline stated in the contract, presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef said in a statement Sunday.
In June, Siemens and the Egyptian government have signed contracts worth €8 billion for the three power plants which will add an additional 14.4 gigawatts (GW) to Egypt’s national grid. According to Kaeser, the new installations are expected to “boost Egypt’s power generation capacity by more than 50 percent.”
The due also reviewed the developments in establishing six new electricity transmission stations at a capacity of 500/220 Kilovolt to transform the electricity generated by the said power plants, Youssef said.
They also discussed developing and raising the efficiency of a number of operating power plants including that of Ataka and Korayemat.
