CAIRO: Helwan University Council agreed to renew its contract with a private security firm to secure the university during the 2015-2016 academic year, Youm7 reported

The decision came after President of Helwan University Yasser Saqr met with members of the university council Monday to review an evaluation report on the performance of the privately-owned Falcon Group International during the 2014-2015 academic year.

The report highly recommended the contract renewal under the same conditions, high education ministry source told Youm7 Tuesday.

Security guards from Falcon have deployed to secure gates at several universities across Egypt after the firm signed a contract with the Higher Education Ministry in 2014.

During the past two years, Egypt’s universities have faced continuing unrest since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi; a number of clashes and protests took place by pro-Muslim Brotherhood students, and a number of students have been suspended and expelled as a result.

The students mainly protested the detention of their colleagues and the intervention of police which was deemed necessary by university presidents.
