CAIRO: Luxor Security Directorate has incorporated a new system to evaluate traffic police officers’ performance through embedding surveillance cameras in their uniforms, Youm7 reported Saturday.
Luxor, located on the east bank of Egypt’s Nile River, is the first Egyptian city to apply the unprecedented measure that “aims to boost confidence between officers and the public in the framework of the development of the traffic system,” Youm7 quoted head of Luxor Traffic Department Hossam el-Shayeb as saying.
The cameras will be used to record and monitor officers dealing with the public, as well as traffic violations. Captured photos and videos will be automatically sent to the operation room of the traffic department, he added.
Traffic police officers on motorcycles were equipped with new uniforms, helmets, thermal-insulated footwear for their safety, sunglasses that prevent light reflection while driving as well as walkie-talkie devices supported with a Bluetooth headsets.
